Tradition. Robotic. Empathy.
SOcio
Master Thesis Project

SOcio is a robot gripper with a translucent case, interchangeable fingertips and a light interface layout, to generate an efficient and emphatic communication machine-user.
It is suited for collaborative robots (cobots), which are slowly but steadily expanding in many different sectors, even outside the industrial world.
Then, a mechanical component capable to create an empathic interaction robot-human
can help to  make a complex machine being accepted by many users with different backgrounds.

Challenges: competitive and niche market, high requirements with low-price components,
characterize a machine, create empathy mainly with light.

CAD Software: Solidworks     Rendering: Keyshot
Emotive scheme: feelings connected to led pulses.
How it works: this robot gripper is designed to improve the already existing light scheme of the cobot Panda, adding messages and animations to give it personality.
There are four messages:
1. Boosting. Yellow light. The gripper leds slowly pulse, syncronyzed with the ones at the base and thosers beneath the control buttons.
2. Action. Green light. The external ring lights on led per led, according to the percentage of the operation; at the end, all leds are on and then they execute fast animations to advise the work is done.

3. Error. Red light. The external ring quickly blinks, to warn a malfunctioning component or a hit, due to an obstacle.
4. Software error. Red light. Only the central led rapidly switches on-off, to advice in case of software mistake or tasks with missing/wrong components.
